I write things. I travel a lot. I am grateful to do both of those things together a lot of the time. I’m from New Mexico but have been a Londoner for more than a decade.  In previous seasons of life, I also lived in Texas, Boston, China, Ireland and Prague. The story of how they connect up is a long one!

I am a journalist, author, editor and consultant passionate about helping humans understand one another and ourselves better, and finding a sustainable way forward for life on Earth. Since 2021, I have been the editor of Nightscape, the quarterly magazine of DarkSky International. And in 2023, I won a Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism bronze prize for my feature on climate change and the only brewery in the Serengeti.

Previously, I spent 6.5 years as a staff editor for North & Central Asia at legendary travel publisher Lonely Planet producing guidebooks, articles and video on China, Central Asia, Korea, Taiwan and Mongolia. I hold an MA in Intercultural Studies from Dublin City University in Ireland and a BA in Intercultural Communication and Mandarin Chinese from the University of New Mexico.

I love looking at the stars, folk and indie music, writing verse, taking very long walks, eating on a small stool on a Chinese street, mysteries, spiritual things, the Himalaya, train rides, contemplation and beer (the alcohol-free variety nowadays). I write about a lot of those topics in my journal here.
